Foster Parentship Programme

To each supporter of the Foster Parentship Programme:

Recently some events have taken place, which are forcing us to change the operation of the programme for the children of the slum dwellers of Miraj.  As you may know, the current political climate in India is not supportive of Christian activities.  Recently there have been investigations into this programme, and accusations that we are demanding conversion to Christianity as a condition for participation.  Of course this is not true. The name “Foster Parent” also has unintended connotations to the public.

After much prayerful deliberation, we have felt is wise to make the following changes:  The name of the programme will be the Community Health Initiative for Learning and Development (CHILD). A committee from Wanless Hospital, chaired by Dr./Mrs. Jacob, will designate which children will be supported, and will be accountable for all funds received and disbursed.  An annual report will be sent to all supporters of CHILD.  Each child will continue to receive the same items as before:  a school uniform, school supplies, a daily nutritious meal, and medical care.  All this will afford them the tools for their education, and vocational development.

Instead of giving your support to an individual child however, your donation will be to the programme for support of the children of slum dwellers.  The number of children supported will be determined by the donations received.  At present, your contributions have supported over 200 children.  As previously mentioned, you will receive an annual report about the children.  Due to increased costs, we are asking for a donation of $50 a year for each child supported.  This will make a world of difference to each supported child, and for this they are grateful beyond words. We all hope you will be able to continue your support of the CHILD programme.

If you have any questions or comments, please direct them to us at Wanless Hospital, or to Dr. Dick Bedell in the USA at 303-443-4695.
